A Baby and Some Blogs

Happy Sunday all!  So, my (obviously) biggest news for those of you who don't know is that my husband and I welcomed our son, Forrest, on Friday, August 15th.  Forrest was a whopping 10 pounds, 11 ounces (yes, I had a c-section) and 21.5 inches long.  We absolutely adore our little (big!) boy!

In other news, my sister in law let me know that she and my brother's wedding from last September was featured on the The Fete Blog.  It was a great feature and there are even a couple of pics of yours truly!  http://blog.thefeteblog.com/2014/08/sarah-hunt-a-sweet-southern-wedding-day/  Sarah Whitmeyer was their photographer and she is absolutely awesome.  Recommend her highly if you are in the market for a photographer.

Lastly, my friend Liz sent me this link to this blog mocking Anthropologie furniture and I nearly died laughing. Don't get me wrong...I love Anthro as much as the next person but she provides a hysterical commentary on the ridiculousness and impracticality of their pieces.  Totally worth the full read here.

Baby Jones' Nursery

I'm sure it is never going to feel totally finished as I continue to move things around so I'll go ahead and post some pictures since several people have asked of the room.  I"m just over 36 weeks now so Baby Jones will be coming home very soon and we can't wait to meet him!

Here's the crib which we got from Target (although as I mentioned in a previous post, they've now started selling at Serena and Lily.  It also converts to a toddler bed.  The sheet and crib skirt are from Land of Nod. The artwork are vintage prints of Paris that belonged to my husband that I had framed.

The mobile is from a little shop in Raleigh called Progeny when I was out shopping with my sister in law.  It is handmade and I adore it.  Here's a close up:

Here's a close up of the little moon pillow (also from Progeny) and some sweet toys given to me by my aunt and a dear colleague. Yes, I know this will have to come out of the crib when I put him in it!

Here's the dresser and and changing table in one.  I opted not to get a changing table since it only has a limited time use.  The dresser is from Ikea and I changed out the knobs (from Home Depot).  The mirror is from Serena and Lily.

I got the glider and ottoman from Land of Nod.  Pillow is West Elm and the lamp is vintage milk glass that I got years ago.  Little white side table was also a vintage find from a recent outing to Chartreuse and Co.  The feather print was a gift from Furbish from my brother and sister in law that I had framed.

Here's the window and curtains.  I got the curtains from Target and embellished with the red pom pom trim.

I got the bookshelf from Target.  The lamp is from Home Goods ad the artwork are actually vintage stamps - one of a little dog and one of Curious George that I got at Eastern Market.  Our generous friends and family gave us all of the books.

Here's a close up of the top shelf of the bookshelf so you can see the amazing knit puppet that my dear friend made for us.  I had seen a similar puppet my friend Amanda made and it is what inspired me to start knitting in the first place.  I don't have the skill or patience to do my own but I am so excited for Baby Jones to have him!

And that's about it...now all I need is the baby!

Nursery Elements

I have a few more touches to do to the nursery before I post pictures but here is a preview of some of the essentials:

The glider is from Land of Nod and the dresser (which I promptly changed out the knobs) is Ikea (Hemnes 3-drawer).  That's not the crib I got but it is the bedding - also from Land of Nod.  The mirror is Serena and Lily and that's the actual paint color on the wall.

The crib (and this is a GREAT tip for anyone who is in the market) is fabulous.  I absolutely adore it.  I got it from Target but then discovered that Serena and Lily is also selling the exact same one!  I was proud of my "eye" on that one.  The crib looks like this:

It is more modern than my usual style but I actually love it.  It is very sturdy and also converts to a toddler bed for when Baby Jones gets older.

Nursery Inspiration

I know, I know.  I've been totally slacking on the blog front lately!  I'm working on getting my creative juices flowing so I can start working on the nursery.  This weekend we moved everything out of the guest room and into the basement to make room for baby.  I've pretty much settled on Arrowhead Lake from Behr for the color of the walls (with white trim).

I sampled it this weekend and both my husband and I really like it in there.  I like that it doesn't scream baby and could easily be sophisticated for a grown up bedroom.  I actually got the inspiration from the latest Wisteria catalog that I got (by the way, if you haven't looked at it closely, you need to because I want everything in there!).

That's about as far as I've gotten - a paint color and a cleared out room.  Next step is getting my husband to paint...

I have been looking at lots of ideas on Pinterest, of course.  It's overwhelming now that it is actually my turn to do this to try to pick everything and make a decision on what direction I'm going to go in with the room.

Another Gender Neutral Nursery

It is cold and starting to snow here today.  I'm cozied up at home on the couch with two snoring pups and so I decided to work on a little mood board.  The last gender neutral nursery I did for my friend Lane has been pretty popular on Pinterest so I decided to try out another...whaddya think?

I like the simplicity of the pieces and you could really jazz it up with fabrics for pillows, crib sheets, drapes, etc. when you did find out the sex of the baby.

Lane's Little Bear

Along with my book club, I hosted a baby shower for my friend Lane this weekend.  It was good because it gave me an excuse to completed a knitting project - something I've been slacking on lately.  I made her this little garter stitch brown bear.  He's not perfect but I think that's what makes handmade gifts nice.  They aren't finding out the sex of the baby so his bow is a gender neutral navy and white polka dot.  We can change it out to blue or pink down the road!
