Sew Fun Day 2010

My friend Reeves has inspired me to learn to sew.  You know, because I need one more thing to do.  Riiight.  Nevertheless, I am excited about it.  Reeves lives too far away from me now.  Lucky for me, I have a very talented and close by friend named Meghann agreed not only to come give me a free sewing lesson she also sold me her sewing machine!!  And there you have it folks, yesterday was officially Sew Fun Day 2010.  We ordered Thai food, poured some red wine, and started sewing up a storm.  I entered my lesson armed with three different books...but I wasn't prepared with all of the gear for several of the projects we picked...so, I ended up making a sleeping mask.

I'm not quite finished because I think I'm going to fill it with lavender.  I gotta say....sewing is HARD.  But, I thought knitting was near impossible when I started so I guess the moral of the story is practice, practice, practice.  That, and according to Meghann, you can never use too many pins.  (See, M, I did listen!).

Please don't judge my very first project...I was going on very little sleep from having to be at work at 6am and we also all know patience isn't my strong suit.  I felt a little ADD while doing this but, I will focus more the next time!

Random tidbit not related to sewing:  For those of you that don't know me, my husband and I were married earlier this year and our minister was a former Beverly Hills, 90210 television tv star turned minister.  My dad called me today to remind me that today was actually 9/02/10.  Ha.

I'm heading to NC to visit my grandmother this weekend and am so excited to be totally offline - no internet in those mountains!  Also, we may be attending one of the world's largest flea markets so I'm hoping to have some great pics!  Stay tuned and have a safe and happy Labor Day!

  1. Oh, yay! Sewing is so fun. I'm sewing Si a shirt as we speak. There are tons of fun sewing blogs too! Here's one a my favorite (easy) projects: http://www.prudentbaby.com/2010/03/quick-pretty-makeup-bag.html. I have made like 10 of these. So fun!

  2. You are going to be a pro in no time! I can feel it.

Don't forget the other rule which is to read the instructions all the way through first, then start cutting. I swear to holy hell, you make that mistake once and you will never do it again.
