Tuesday Tip: Magazine Recipe Organizer

I read magazines like it is my job. I am constantly ripping out pages for my inspiration design files and especially recipes. The torn out pages of recipes had gotten out of control so I corralled them all into a three ring binder that I recycled from all of my wedding info.

I used pocketed plastic dividers to separate the recipes into categories to make it easier to find what I am looking for: appetizers, soups and salads, entrees, sides, and desserts. I use plastic sleeves to file them in the binder.

The pockets in the dividers are great for smaller recipes that don't fit in the sleeves.

Besides being organized, the other benefit to housing the recipes in the plastic sleeves is that when you cook with the recipes by you in the kitchen, all of the mess that usually gets on the pages from cooking is easy to wipe off.

I like to pull out my recipes for the week from the notebook, make my grocery list and then pin the recipes together in a magnetic clip on the refrigerator for easy access. They're at easy reach for when I start to cook each night. At the end of the week, once I'm finished with them, they get refiled back in the book (assuming they were any good).

I can keep my magazine recipe binder right with all my other cookbooks that I love.

  1. I do this too! Although I need to go back through my binder and weed out some things I will just never make. I hadn't thought about doing one for design inspiration though. That would be a lot easier than keeping the whole magazine and then trying to remember when/where I saw something. :-)
