Coming Out of the Closet

I was talking to my co-worker, a mother a four, this afternoon and she was saying that this summer three of her four kids will be living back at home again (after being in college).  She had turned one of the bedrooms into a craft-type room for herself with a sewing machine, wrapping paper, etc. but now one of the boys needed to stay there.  So, her project this weekend is to clear out that room.

She has lots of storage in her basement so I suggested that she revamp one of her closets into an office/craft room for herself.  It's not an original idea - it's been all over magazines and the blog world, but, maybe these ideas will inspire some of you to rethink an otherwise underutilized space.  Instead of cramming junk in and closing the door, make it pretty so that you want to look in there!  In the DC area where space is at a premium, I can see this idea working for lots of people.

And if a home office or craft area isn't at the top of your priority list, you can always utilize this idea from Real Simple and turn your unused closet into a fully stocked bar!

  1. I've never thought of turning a closet into something. That's actually a cool idea. If I had another place for my washer and dryer, I would maybe turn that closet in the kitchen into something more useful.
